Can Hong Kong afford to lose the breath of a true island? As part of Inter Island Festival organised by Miriam Alne and Chan Chun-kit of ‘Islanders’ and Yip Kai-Chun, ‘URBAN ENTITY, PIER’ is reflective walk from Mui Wo to Chi Ma Wan on Lantau Island, using the formation of the ferry pier as reference point for noticing  aspects of Hong Kong insular culture, the pier typology and simply in enhancing perception of the landscapes, ecologies and social activities around it.

The pier here is a moment of tension, a threshold where urbanity entered the rural area with its all-natural attributes. It announces the changes with its seemingly static, concrete body and ferry vessels plunging on schedule; disappearing territorial borders between developed and undeveloped, nature and city, concrete and rock, the speed and slowness of movement, sanity and insanity of a postmodern city.
